VSWP Gives Wheels to a Vet in Need

Posted on Updated on

CHOATEA1 - CopyOur Veterans Safeway to Work Program (VSWP) made possible by the Safeway Foundation and Vons Foundation and offered at our Veterans Plaza transitional living facility for male Veterans provides vocational assistance to Veterans in need of supplies or training for their individual profession. We’d like to share just one way that we helped a Veteran that we serve!

Alvie C. is a Veteran currently employed as a housekeeper with the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Fresno, CA through their Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) program. He contacted VSWP informing our staff that he needed assistance with transportation because his shifts would begin before the bus system started running, requiring him to walk to and from work each day. This showed just how determined he is to work,  and through VSWP funding, we were able to provide a bike with a lock along with needed clothes and shoes for work. We are honored to have served Alvie and wish only the best for him in his future endeavors.
